We are in the midst of Holy Week. Tomorrow is Maundy Thursday. Some call it Holy Thursday. When we gather as the body of Christ on Maundy Thursday, we remember everything that happened on that last Passover Meal that Jesus had with the disciples. Looking at the passage from John, we hear Jesus how Jesus washed his disciples feet. They protested just a little, but Jesus reminded them that no one is better than anyone else. The master is no better than the slave. For us today, we realize that he is telling us that no one is better than anyone else. The pastor is not more important than the laity. The boss is not more important than the worker. The husband is not more important than the wife. The list goes on and on. In fact, you might have some examples of your own to post in the comments.
As I think about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, I am reminded of how that act was in the significance in the days of Jesus. People didn't bathe the way we do now. In fact, it was more important to keep your feet clean. As the disciples and Jesus were walking around they would have been getting the dirt from the pathways and the roads on their feet. The pathways and the roads aren't as we would think about them. The dirt would have contained the excrement that was tossed our of the homes. This means that there was dangerous substances in the dirt. Because of this, the feet needed to be cleaned. The owner of the home wouldn't have been the one to clean the feet of their guests. It wouldn't have even been the guests in most homes that did that. It would have been the job of the servants. By Jesus being the one to wash the disciples feet, he gives us another example of servant leadership. It is an example that we should all learn to do. We should be servants leaders, no matter what our position may be. I have said many times in my ministry that I will not ask anyone to do anything that I wouldn't do myself. I have no problem doing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning toilets, vacuuming, etc. I have to be willing to do whatever is needed to be done. How are you a servant leader for Jesus Christ? Feel free to post in the comments what it is that you do. As we journey through Holy Week, may you remember that this time of year isn't about the easter bunny or chocolate or egg hunts. This time of year is about a remembrance of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Grace and Peace...Pastor Angie

It's Wednesday! I have been looking forward to beginning our blog on our website. I believe it is important that we have a say to communicate other than just through the link to our worship services on YouTube and FaceBook. We should be able to have a conversation here and in person. It is a part of building relationships.
When Jesus walked this earth, he was all about relationships. He would talk with people, even when the disciples didn't think he should. Jesus asked about other people. He genuinely cared about them. In our churches today, we are often more concerned about ourselves and keeping the light on, so to speak. Churches far to often forget about the love and acceptance from Christ. People do not place the high priority on being a part of a church anymore. I believe that, for many, the reasons will include the judgement that they get from others who are a part of the church. What are your thoughts? Why do you think that church attendance around our country has decreased? Pastor Angie You are to make comments.
